Learning as I go in northern Canada.
FREE SCRAP SHED. CABIN PROJECT #4
In this video, I am using all the free scrap wood I can find on my cabin property to make my shed. Choosing to do this makes the construction complicated and time-consuming. But, it is so fun to do. Figuring out how to fit all the weird pieces together is really cool and it makes for an awesome-looking cabin.

I'm working on a cabin in Northern Canada. I need a shed, and I need to make sure it's stuck to the ground and won't blow away. I don't have a lot of experience in construction, so I am just going with what I think will work. It turns out I can accomplish a lot on my own. This is the story of my first year in my cabin in Canada's Northwest Territories. We bought this cabin when it needed a lot of work. And that's why we bought it. I love a good project and this cabin will give me years of work. I love that this cabin is far from home. It's nice and remote and it sits on a big beautiful lake with lots of fish. This is just the beginning. Enjoy this diary of the f...

JAY, I LLLOOOOVVVVEEEE THAT SHED, IMPERFECTIONS AND ALL🎉🎉😂❤❤😊
Move South 😂😂😂😂
Get a book and keep your tape straight when using it, lmao! Couple 20 penny nails in the substraight will hold your plywood up while you nail it.
You need to find an old mini pontoon boat (6’x11’) with no motor etc. lite enough you can pull it up on shore by cabin out of the way. Usually it like a barge to haul things in the summer and tow it with your boat
Надо на крыше построить террасу, будет крутой вид!, и - помыть плиту))
Keep it going! All good. How's that truck coming along after winter? The one that was stuck in the snow. Did you put some mods on it or give it some upgrades?
I love seeing you living your dream. You always talked in your older videos about wanting your own cabin and fixing it up, and now you are doing it!! It is amazing seeing the channel grow. And I’m excited now that you are focusing on the channel full time that the videos are beginning to be longer and I’m seeing new videos more frequently. I can’t wait for the hunting videos and i ABSOLUTELY cant wait for winter ❄️❄️❄️☃️☃️☃️
I just love your chanel
The secret for a strong shed is to have your wall plywood, lap most of the floor rim boards.
It may NOT be your propane tank, Jay. Check the orifices on the stove! Spiders like to climb in them, and sew their webs. That will keep your stove from firing. Pilot orifice to start. Then clean out the burners. Hope that helps!
Enjoy your videos, Jay. Two small recommendations for your shed: 1) put a few cross-members/rafters from one side to the other; and 2) with just a small amount of house wrap covering the exterior of the shed, you'll get far more longevity out of it. Left to the elements, the bare plywood will take a beating and won't last long. Keep up the good work!
So if I am being honest...I have know idea what a Thumnail is and clearly I don't since my spelling is not correct, but in construction albeit if USA which right now I am not Proud nor with Canada, I learn from you and have shown my crew your videos, but you have a good base because by the time they give me the feedback you get your answers. I work in the Commercial and dapple slightly in the USA of Fire Sprinkler, I have been in this business for 40 years. Small Industry but I have knowledge and friends and I am sorry the delay, but my company and personal take time to respond. Great Job and you relax me. Please know your building is being watched. Stay Safe and God Bless you.
I know this is basic but you either need to paint it or put on some wood preservative. It'll last a lot longer. Also on your propane stove you need to ensure you have the propane orifices and not natural gas. when you change tanks you need to open the burners all the way open to purge the air out of the lines
I absolutely enjoy seeing the amount of joy you show when you finally decide to just go with your mind…it’s truly inspirational.
You could pre-cut at your home and then boat it over. 😊
Awesome video jay keep it up can’t wait for all ur videos ! Hunting fishing and all you will do is gonna be great cheers bud !!
Use that stuff up, better than burning it , FREE.
3” screw is way overkill, only need 3/4” penetration
Good job Mr. Jay! 👍🏻😎
Great video!!! That’s why I LIKE YOUR VIDEOS!!! You think “ outside the box” or in this case “ the shed” Oh by the way… as a quilter… the way you cut and piece things together…. You might also consider sewing a quilt 😉
Love your videos Jay and keep posting them. I really like the music in your videos, accompanies them well. I hope you will put at least one window in your shed, otherwise you will not have any natural light. A beautiful country you live in and nice to see from where I am in London.
Gotta set that hook!!
It's Called propane lock out. Happens all the time. Leave the hose hooked up, turn on the tank and losen the hose unitl you a little psst and a small clunck. tighten it up and try it, On boats and rvs it's pretty common.
Well Jay that shed looks great you have done a fantastic using all that wood that was left by the previous owner. I take that you will give this a coat of paint or a waterproof varnish and then you will see now difference at all Again thank you Jay
Hunting has put me right off
Just wondering, should there be space between each OSB board to allow for expansion/ movement? Im goung to be doing something similar soon.
Wow I followed you at about 60k subs, it's awesome to see you hit over 200k. I love your content
Jay check the bottom of the oven or broiler area there might be another pilot near the back to light. We use to forget sometimes to light it and would wake up with a bad headache in morning. I liked use the broiler for making toast
every time you disconect you propane line you will have to bleed the air out before it will work again. when i shut mine off for a week at a time I have to bleed the air out every time
You only have one propane tank on-site? Remember the saying - "Two is one, and one is none." Some things you gotta have a backup of, especially for how cheap tanks are (compared to not having backup).
Hi Jay we follow you from Etobicoke Toronto we love what you do we follow you Greetings 👍🇺🇾🇪🇨🇨🇦 Happy Canada Day Amigo
PAINT covers a multitude of sin's😅 nobody's the wiser!
It’s a shed. Use what you have on the land. Smart looking shed.
Love watching your videos Jay, love your have a go attitude, I'm intrigued, why did you use nails at the base and screws to fix the sides to the frame ?
You’re doing great Jay. Keep up the good work. You’ll get everything done that you want to achieve Sending hugs from Australia
You can haul plywood on your boat. It's done everyday
Why do you have so little Pike in the pan? did you save some for later?
Good Video,Jay, and once again I am ENVIOUS of your solitude!
You made a sensible choice between a pile of lumber beneath the cabin and a shed. Don't worry about the patchwork design, a coat of paint and nobody will notice. Next challenge is figuring out how to frame a doorway into the remaining wall. You're going to learn a lot from that. 🙂
New subscriber! I say if you have a desire for outdoor cooking, do it. The people who like it will stay, and you will draw in new people who also enjoy it. Loved your video! I might have missed it, but what is this tent? Thank!!!

glad to watch your video and you are learning good job thank you for sharing
Jay! Spray chlorine on that wood and it'll look brand new. Half parts, pool chlorine, and half part water. I swear, try it!!
You are awesome! using what you have to get what you need to store stuff. That is interesting about the propane tank. Have you thought about upsizing it to maybe a 100 pounder now before the cold season sets in so that you can fill it while prices are cheaper and haul it out in the winter either in the truck or snow mobile? I envy you also about using a hammer this much! I cant swing the hammer as much as I use to with out my hand locking up and cramping. I will say I love my Paslode framing nailers and pneumatic nailers! If I had the vacation time in the winter to come up for a week or two, I would love it!!! I would rather be in freezing conditions driving nails by hand then in 97(F) with 85% humidity using a Paslode or air gun!!!
You need a landing net Jay!!
@jay legere your pot probably rocks because the bottom of the pot may have thinner metal, there for while heating up it tends to rock and vibrate due to the bottom warping, That's just a guess though.
Why don’t you just take the tank to a hardware store and exchange it for a new one?? It’s not worth the time or risk messing with it.
You remind me of my pa who used what was available in building. Everything is re-usable and nothing wasted lol.
Hey Jay, greetings from Australia. Love your videos and your shed looks great so far. 😊
